Aaron Ralston lived for adventure. Athletic and self-sufficient, he often explored the deep and narrow sandstone canyons of Southern Utah’s Canyonlands.
One day, as he lowered himself into another remote crag a fleeting thought crossed his mind. Nobody would know where to look for him should something happen to him. As he made his way deeper into the canyon, a large rock dislodged and wedged his lower arm against the wall. After the initial shock wore off, he became aware that he was not able to free himself from this position. He tried to chip away at the rock with his multi-purpose tool. Soon, his knife was dull. Still, he was not able to move his arm at all. By now, his water supply began to run low and reality sunk in. He would not survive much longer, unless he would be able to free himself somehow.
After some thought, he concluded, the only way out of his “jam” was to amputate his own arm. With a fresh determination to survive he began the painful process of cutting through layers of his flesh, through arteries, tendons, nerves, and forcefully breaking the bones of his arm. An hour later, exhausted and overjoyed at the same time he realized he had freed himself.
He still had a long and hard hike in front of him, but his survival was now almost a sure thing. Aaron Ralston survived his ordeal. His story was made into a movie entitled: “127 Hours.”
There had been only one way to get free from his situation! But one way was enough!
Maybe you have heard someone protest the statement that the only way to have our relationship with God restored is through Jesus.
Why should there be only one way?
Doesn’t it make sense that we gratefully acknowledge that there is a way at all?
All Aaron Ralston needed was one way to be saved.
If you find yourself between an rock and a hard place, I want to encourage you to come to Jesus, just the way you are, warts and all. He will forgive, heal, and restore as you put your trust in Him and obey Him. He is the one who claimed and proved himself to be the way, the truth, and the life.
Yes, no one comes to the Father except through Him—but that’s all that is needed, one way!
